Appearances in the media

Because they are widespread, seagulls have often been featured in stories, movies, and other media. One of the most famous seagull-related books is Richard Bach's Jonathan Livingston Seagull. Remember Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds? Although seagulls are not normally known to attack humans, they will certainly defend their nest against intruders. They might also peck at you if you bother them while they are eating.

I just had the (mis)fortune of seeing To Gillian on her 37th Birthday, and guess what? There was a seagull motif! Seagulls appeared at the very beginning of the movie and at the very end. You could hear their unmistakable squawk in what appeared to be a sleepy island community on the East Coast of the U.S. To me, the use of seagulls as a symbolic motif represented the hope that was awakened in the main character as he struggled to get his priorities in order. Well, enough of that auteur garbage. Gillian gets three stars for seagull spotting, but only two stars on the enjoyment scale.

I will put a more complete list of seagull appearances here when I get a chance to catalog them. If you know of any appearance of seagulls, be it a news story, movie, novel, or otherwise, please let me know. I'd like to make this list as complete as possible.
